In August, 1962, Deane visited Fort Polk, Vernon Parish, Louisiana to report on the 39th Division of the Arkansas National Guard, a parade and ceremony. Bridge techniques were demonstrated by guardsmen from Danville, Yell County, Arkansas working on a floating bridge.
